Josie is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.

Some people are just not comfortable in front of a camera. I

understand the feeling perfectly. I hate having my picture made. I am extremely uncomfortable in front of the camera, and it always shows in the photographs.

I was pretty sure Josie wasn’t comfortable with having her pictures taken.

This was the case with Josie. I asked her mother if she would allow me to do Josie’s prom photos, because I was pretty sure that Josie was not a big fan of having her picture made, and I wanted to be

absolutely sure that her prom photo session would be amazing. I

wanted her to see her photos and know how beautiful she is, but that alone wasn’t enough. I wanted her to look at the photos and remember a wonderful experience.

Photographs help us remember times and occasions. They help us relive the emotions we had on those occasions. When people look at photographs of themselves and their friends and family, they rarely

talk about how beautiful they look. They almost always talk about the circumstances. “We were so happy that day.” “That was such a fun

trip!” “I remember this picture. That was the day the seagull stole your hotdog.”

I am pretty sure Josie agreed to the photo session just to make her mom happy. She sent me a message through her mom that I had my work cut out for me, because she wasn’t comfortable in front of the camera — she didn’t know how to pose or where to look.

Cue the fanfare music – Thank you, Jordan and Amy Demos, for your posing course! I was able to tell her mom with complete confidence that all Josie had to do was relax and follow my instructions, and I

could guarantee she would love both her photo session and her photos.

Finally, the big day arrived. Josie was absolutely stunning with her updo, and her makeup, and one of the sweetest prom dresses I have ever seen. I love that she finished her outfit off with a touch of her

own personality by wearing sneakers.

Love the sneakers!

After an hour of swirling, twirling, sitting, standing, and looking here

and there, I was sure that Josie was ready to be rid of me forever. I do suffer from Just-One-More syndrome. Actually, I think my clients

suffer more from my Just-One-More syndrome than I do . . . but I digress.

Swirling and twirling

Sit here.

Sit there.  Look here.

Look there.

As we were loading into the cars to go grab some post-photo supper, my husband said, “Josie is knocking on your window.” I rolled the

window down thinking that she had thought of one more pose that she would like to try. (I always end the session by asking if there is any pose we didn’t do that they may have seen on Pinterest or in someone else’s photos that they would like to try). Instead, with a glowing smile, she said, “Thank you so much! I had so much fun!”

I had so much fun!

That is the best compliment I can ever get from my clients. It still makes my heart sing! Let’s face it; once you learn how to use a

camera properly, getting a good photograph of a beautiful girl is not a huge magic trick. But getting someone who knows they hate having their picture made to exclaim that they loved their experience in front of your camera is a huge win in my book.

Happy subject = Huge win!

I feel so blessed that I was able to give Josie a prom session that,

when she looks at her photos, makes her think, “That was such a fun day!”

Happy memories
