I was so excited to go ballroom dancing with my daughter. We hadn’t gone together in over a year. I was also excited, because I had lost a few pounds, and my black dress fit me.
We had the most marvelous time at the dance doing the Rhumba, East Coast Swing, Hustle, Waltz…It was incredible. When we got home, Laura decided to take a picture to help us remember the evening. After all, that is what photographs are for — remembering fun times.
She felt that it was a wonderful picture. All I saw was my ARM! Just look at it!
When I mentioned it to Laura she said, “Do you know what I see? I see arms that have held kids and grandkids. Arms that have cuddled and rocked sleepy ones and wrapped up cold ones to help them get warm. Arms that cook and clean for me while I recover from giving birth. Arms that I can’t wait to feel around me when I know you are on your way for a visit.”
Ladies, don’t hesitate to have your pictures made just because there is a part of your body that you do not think meets society’s standard of beauty. After all, the family photos you have made are not for magazines. These photos are for you and your family. Your family does not see what society would tell you are flaws in your shape. Your family sees the acts of love, devotion, and service that have been a part of the mom/wife/sister/friend that they know and love.
If this has kept you from having photos made, stop it. Find a local photographer (you can find me at http://www.leonawaters.com) and have family photos made. Your family will love you for it.
